Late Day Light Display

Late Day Light Display, 9X12, oil/panel

Hi Everybody, while at a plein air workshop in Wyoming some years ago, I painted at this scene. The painting I did on site was of a different view and was more of a quick study. But I stopped long enough to snap a picture of this scene to paint at a later date. When I finally got round to painting it this past week, I decided to add this late day light effect as the focal point.

Hi Steve,
I've been following your blog for a while now. This piece has inspired me to get out my old photo reference material and do something new with them. Thanks!

Steve I really like this - very calming. I'm going to have to dig out some of my Yellowstone photos now and try a landscape ;-)

Hey Steve:

Great piece. This type of light is so fleeting and difficult to capture. You did a inspiring piece. Just got back from Big Bend and had a similar late afternoon lighting situation. Had fifteen minutes to get it. Some of the best work is done when there's no time to think...just got time to throw down the paint. I'm off to buy a copy of Cowboys and Indians.
